Two Apprehended in Italy Over Murders of Four Pakistani Workers

(MENAFN) Italian authorities have arrested two Pakistani nationals in connection with the killing of four Pakistani farm workers whose charred bodies were discovered inside a burned-out vehicle in the southern region of Calabria, broadcaster TG24 reported Tuesday.

Castrovillari prosecutor Alessandro D'Alessio confirmed the gravity of the case, stating that the two men are "seriously suspected of multiple and aggravated homicide."

The victims were found Monday inside a burned minivan in Amendolara, in the province of Cosenza — a discovery that immediately triggered a focused criminal investigation.

Surveillance footage proved pivotal in cracking the case. Prosecutors said investigators reviewed camera recordings from a gas station where the vehicle was found, and the footage allegedly captured a damning sequence of events — two individuals approaching the minivan, blocking its doors from the outside, hurling an object or substance at it, and fleeing the scene as flames took hold.

Following a thorough review of the footage and further inquiries, authorities tracked down and apprehended the suspects in the town of Villapiana. The pair were subsequently taken into formal custody after questioning at police headquarters in Cosenza.

Prosecutor D'Alessio stressed that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings and determine whether additional individuals bear responsibility.
